Codes and conventions of a music magazine content page.
- NME
Background – white and red with black stripes, creates a “hardcore” image and a broken up look without looking shabby.
Layout – columns with images on one side with the contents list on the other. The logo is included on the top of the page and this creates a brand image and follows the house style of the magazine. The typeface is easy to read and it also allows the reader to read the contents without it looking boring.
Language – the language is not formal but it does not include slang either.
Images – two are included at the top of the page and a large one at the top right hand side with four more smaller ones are at the bottom of the right hand side.
Reader profile – there is evidence of the reader profile, there is blood in the top picture and this indicates a “hardcore” lifestyle and there is a connotation of danger and violence which is also included in the music genre included on the magazine. The black stripes also break up the content page, and this gives an indication of the clothes etc. that the potential reader would wear. Also, there is an indication that the magazine is definitely a music magazine from the content list, instead of the possible title “index” they call it “band index” and list loads of bands which feature in the magazine. There is no beauty section in the magazine, which gives connotations that music is the most important thing on theses people’s lives.
